OK, I have looked and looked and can’t seem to figure this out.  I know it will be appallingly easy for those folks out there who actually took Latin, but please take pity on me and help anyway.

I am trying to translate the motto on the insignia for Mount Sinai’s affiliated hospital unit in World War II, the Third General Hospital.   The words are “Deo et Gladio”.  I have my guess on what I think it means, but since I am using this in a public display, I would actually like to be correct.
As a former Latin teacher I can tell you it means "By God and by the sword".
