I'd also suggest sunglasses, clip-ons for glasses wearers. (A set of
clip-ons can be had for $8 to $20, depending on where you shop -- if you
can find them. I'm a glasses-wearer who's susceptible to migraines: I find
doing without them this time of the year an invitation to pain.) Lots and
lots and lots of D.C. buildings are blindingly white in the summer
sunshine, especially in combination with the wide sidewalks.

A cotton hat of some kind wouldn't be a bad idea: I've found some good
ones in the men's department at WalMarts. (I have a big head.) Some
sunshine just can't be effectively blocked with either sunglasses or
clip-ons.
