After crash, clerk's office must go on

AMENIA * Supervisor Janet Reagon stood outside the town hall the
morning of July 15.

She said she had recently attended a meeting of town supervisors in
which the discussion was about emergency preparedness.

"We didn't talk about this," Reagon said, gesturing toward the front of
the building.

Early that Saturday morning, a car crashed into the side of town hall,
right where the clerk's office is located. Besides the damage to the
building itself, the incident disrupted the town's ability to conduct
business and endangered documents vital to the town's operations.

The crash, and the resulting recovery costing thousands of dollars,
underscored the need to protect the multitude of documents
municipalities maintain.

[...] [wall buckled, water line severed] [things were not helped by the
fact that the car had previously crashed into a portable toilet.....]
[BUT relatively good backup practices!]

A long article; no mention of "dusty records", AND... Recently, _The
Poughkeepsie Journal_ has been featuring a magazine type article, rather
than breaking news, on the left side of the front page, so this
archives/records-related article was on the front page, above the fold!
