Project Archivist Position Announcement

The Historical Society of Frederick County is seeking qualified applicants for a two-year project archivist position. The project archivist will be responsible for working with community organizations to develop sound archival practices and assist them in identifying historical materials for deposit with the Society. The project archivist also will be responsible for organizing the deposited records and developing finding aids to promote their use by researchers.

 

Qualified candidates for the position will have a bachelor’s degree in U.S. history, American studies or a related field and a master’s degree in library science, archival science or a related field.  Formal training in archival administration and experience working in an archival setting is preferred. The candidate also should demonstrate a working knowledge of archival and records management principles and standards, including guidelines for the conservation of archival materials. Experience with a variety of standard office computer programs and automated cataloging systems are preferred. The ideal candidate must be able to work and think independently and have the ability to communicate effectively.

 

The starting salary for this position will be $27,500 per year plus benefits, including medical insurance, paid leave and retirement benefits after the first year. An extension of the position beyond its two year term is possible.
