Digital Services Librarian

 

Columbia College Chicago is an undergraduate and graduate college in
downtown Chicago whose principal commitment is to provide comprehensive
educational opportunities in the arts, communications and public
information, within a context of enlightened liberal education. Columbia
is the fifth largest private educational institution in Illinois, with a
Fall 2005 enrollment of more than 10,000 students, which includes
approximately 640 graduate students. It is the country's largest and
most diverse private arts and communications college. Most of Columbia's
1,250 faculty members work in the professions about which they teach.
Class sizes are small and instruction is hands-on.  

 

Columbia College Chicago Library seeks an energetic, creative and
outgoing individual to coordinate, expand, evaluate and promote the
College's digital collections.  The Digital Services Librarian will work
with colleagues within the Library specifically and with those in the
Columbia community to further digitization efforts college-wide.

 

Responsibilities include: providing leadership to and coordination of,
librarians, faculty, staff, and other partners participating in the
creation of digital collections of text, images, audio, and video;
providing expertise on digitization and adherence to metadata standards,
creation and implementation of training materials, providing training
for digital management systems and oversight of usability studies
related to digital projects.

 

Requirements: ALA-accredited MLS with a minimum of two years
professional experience in a digital library environment. Demonstrated
knowledge of and experience with digital objects management systems
(CONTENTdm preferred), metadata standards, controlled vocabularies and
digital archiving practices.  Excellent communication and project
management skills are required as is the ability to work in a culturally
rich and diverse college environment. 

 

Working knowledge of web technologies and indexing and harvesting
standards is desired.
