Susan, Count me in. I also propose that we discuss the formation of INCA (The Institute of Non-Certified Archivists) to meet before each SAA annual conference. We can work out the details at the first meeting. I'm glad to see this less vitriolic discussion of certification. I was at the Atlanta meeting when discussion of certification was cut-off, and have a had a bad feeling about it ever since. I was given to understand at that meeting that certification would not be used as a criteria for employment. However, over the years, I have seen more and more job postings with the caveat "certification preferred" or "Certified archivist preferred" or "if not certified, must be willing to obtain certification as Archivist." As a University Archivist, with more than 20 years of experience, I would automatically be excluded from many positions because I would be unwilling to obtain certification. SAA should put a lid on this. No job ad should be placed in the SAA archival outlook with a CA requirement or preference. chuck hill, NCA University Archivist Eastern Kentucky University ----Original Message Follows---- From: Susan Hamson <[log in to unmask]> "...I'm posting an invite before next year's meeting and we can all meet up for a drink and revel in our professional rebellion!!"
