National Archives seeks innovators to apply for award

The National Archives of Australia is offering $15,000 as part of its prestigious Ian Maclean Award to encourage excellence in archival innovation. If you have a good idea that would benefit archives, we want to hear from you.

If you are a historian, technologist, anthropologist, website specialist, database specialist or an archivist, you may be able to make an important contribution to archives that is funded by this award. The generous stipend will be bestowed upon the applicant who can best demonstrate how their project will benefit innovation in the archival profession and promote the important contribution that archives make to society.

Director-General of the National Archives of Australia, Ross Gibbs, announced that for the 2007 Ian Maclean Award, he hopes to see further collaboration between archivists and other professions. Partnerships that assist cross-discipline research on important archival issues will be eligible.

Proposals for archival work in education, business, multicultural communities or other areas are welcome. Don't be limited by our suggestions!

Past winners of the Ian Maclean Award have successfully augmented existing archival holdings. The 2005 recipient, historian Dr Nikki Henningham, expanded archives relating to the experiences of migrant women in Australia. The 2004 recipient, archivist Mr Bruce Smith, increased the number of archival collections registered on the Guide to Australian Business Records website at <http://www.gabr.net.au>

To find further information about the Ian Maclean Award, see the National Archives website at: <http://www.naa.gov.au/about_us/ian_maclean_award.html>
