We offer memberships at our institution.  For $25 per year, members receive the quarterly newsletter.  It is absolutely worth our time to manage this: 
1.  Many members give more than the required $25, so it helps with our funding. 
2.  It gives us a list of people to draw from when we need information, help with special projects, etc. 
3.  These same people often contribute documents and memorabilia.
4.  Members are our best form of advertising.
