Job Description:

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is the nation's premier destination of heroism, adventure and fun, hosting over 7,000,000 visitors from around the world each year. Through the museum's exhibits and programs and special events, visitors experience her rich history of service and learn about the humanity behind the hardware. The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum consists of the U.S.S. Intrepid, a World War II aircraft carrier that is a National Historic Landmark, as well as a British Airways Concorde and an early Cold War missile submarine, the Growler. Join the crew of the Intrepid Museum as they set sail this winter to an exciting new future which includes the restoration of its aircraft, renovation of gallery and ship spaces, and the inventorying and re-housing of its archival and artifact collection, its reopening slated for 2008.

The Collection Manager, working with the Chief Curator and relevant museum staff, is an essential part of the team regarding the implementation of an inventory, a database cataloging system, re-housing archives, and assisting in the space renovation plans for collection storage. The Collections Manger is the point-person for all museum loans and gifts.

The ideal candidates should have a Master’s degree in Library Science/Archives Management or another Master’s degree, and/or equivalent collection or registrar experience in archival or museum environments, particularly as regards handling a wide variety of artifact materials.
