The Theatre Historical Society of America invites submission of papers reflecting original research on aspects of American theatres relevant to our specific areas of interest (architecture, decoration, equipment, history or operation). Papers which include photographs and/or illustrations are particularly encouraged. The competition is open to anyone. Winning entries are submitted for publication in Marquee ®, the Society’s quarterly journal.
Submission deadline for the 2006 competition is December 31, 2006.

About the organization –
The Theatre Historical Society of America is a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization, founded in 1969, with a national and international membership of 1,000. It is the foremost organization in the U.S. dedicated to documenting the architectural, social and cultural history of
America’s theatres. THSA also operates the American Movie Palace Museum and American Theatre Architecture Archive in Elmhurst, Illinois, with material on more than 14,000 theatres, primarily in the United States – the largest such collection if its kind. The Society’s publications include a quarterly illustrated journal, Marquee ®, now in its 38th year, a special illustrated Annual, and a newsletter.
Membership is open to all. There is a special reduced rate for full-time U.S. students of $30 per year; regular U.S. membership begins at $55 annually. Members receive all publications and a discount on registration for the annual Conclave/Theatre Tour, which visits historic theatres in a different part of the country each summer. The 2006 tour was in Boston and environs. In 2007, THS will visit Milwaukee and Minneapolis.
