As you may remember, earlier this year witnessed the launch of the new, improved Gateway to the Archives of Scottish Higher Education (GASHE) website. The new site was the culmination of a project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council to test a function based approach to archival description. The new site incoporated new and flexible search options, including a facility to access records via descriptions of the functions and activities performed by the higher education institutions.

A full report into the project, describing the methodology used and the reactions of users to the new site, is now availaible on the home page of the GASHE site ( http://www.gashe.ac.uk). Please feel free to send me any comments (about the project or the website itself). All comments will feed directly into the development of a new AHRC funded project that Glasgow University Archive Services has recently embarked upon to develop a flexible and dynamic online finding aid for the records of the House of Fraser collection.

Regards.
