STARTING ANNUAL SALARY $47,913*,  PLUS FULL BENEFIT PACKAGE
* INCREASING TO $48,362 ON JANUARY 1, 2007

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) seeks 
experienced applicants with vision and energy to lead its Government 
Records programs. The position will 1) provide management, oversight and 
development of state and local government records programs; 2) supervise 
the local government records office; 3) supervise the State Records 
Center; and 4) supervise the records analysis section.  This position 
and others in the unit will participate with staff from the Electronic 
Archives and Paper Archives sections of the Archives & Library Division 
in a team-based approach to records scheduling and processing. 
Responsibilities will include program planning and implementation; 
development of records management training for state agencies; personnel 
and budget oversight; and monitoring of state legislation pertaining to 
records.

Required qualifications are an MA degree from an accredited four-year 
college or university and seven (7) years experience in a records 
management program, archives or state records center, three of which 
must have included supervision; OR a BA from an accredited four-year 
college or university and eight (8) years experience in a records 
management program, archives or state records center, three (3) of which 
must have included supervision.  Preferred qualifications include CA or 
CRM; a graduate degree in archives/records management, information 
studies, or library science; five years of progressive supervisory 
experience of a records management program; demonstrated experience in 
strategic planning and program development; experience in the appraisal 
and description of electronic materials; strong communication and 
writing skills; knowledge of and experience with HTML, the Dublin Core 
metadata standard, and MARC 21.

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History, the second oldest 
state archives in the U.S., is a comprehensive, independent agency 
responsible for all historical activities and functions in the state. 
The director of the Department, appointed by an independent Board of 
Trustees, serves as State Historic Preservation Officer and State 
Historical Records Coordinator and provides administrative oversight of 
the Department.  The agency is based in the William F. Winter Archives & 
History Building, a state-of-the-art facility constructed in 2003 to 
house the Archives & Library Division and the agency administrative
