The trend in pest control management for libraries has been to avoid situations that harm collections (e.g. spraying, etc ) and opt for things like sticky pads that catch critters. The problem with "trace" indications is that there may not be a problem, that the critters have moved on. Sticky pads at least either trap or help confirm the now absent or present problem. I would not use poison bait as these bring about death but only where the rats are holed up and then you have an odor and removal problem. I ne= ed current advice on what to do! Do I buy traps or have physical services = spray? I really don't want to use anything that would damage the rest of = our collection or staff (chemicals). Right now I am doing some research on the subject, but need to address th= e problem ASAP. I checked the listserv archives because I thought it would = have been addressed there, but didn't find much (I may have missed something). Horror stories are welcome. Thank you for your assistance.
