Dear colleagues,

The fourth annual Home Movie Day will take place around the world on Saturday, August 12. Among the many new venues joining Home Movie Day this year is New Orleans, where local archivists will be able to survey the extent of the damage done to New Orleans' family film collections and provide information to their keepers about preserving their films and videotapes. An additional screening will precede the Saturday Home Movie Day event and focus on home movies made by members of New Orleans' filmmaking community.

All archivists are encouraged to contact the coordinators of the event nearest them to find out how to volunteer, contribute, or participate. HMD is a great way for archives to reach out to their local communities, share information about preservation and programming, and develop collections of historic motion picture materials. For a complete listing of Home Movie Day event locations, see http://www.homemovieday.com/locations.html.

Best regards,

Organizers, Hosts, and Volunteers of Home Movie Day 2006 www.homemovieday.com

"There's no such thing as a bad home movie. These mini-underground opuses are revealing, scary, joyous, always flawed, filled with accidental art and shout out from attics and closets all over the world to be seen again. Home Movie Day is an orgy of self-discovery, a chance for family memories to suddenly become show business. If you've got one, whip it out and show it now."
