The University of Illinois at Chicago Library seeks a University 
Archivist to head its university archives program. The University of 
Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is a research institution with quality 
standards in research and publication. The University Archives 
includes the records of the university's undergraduate and graduate 
programs in liberal arts and sciences and professional programs in 
the health sciences and reports to the Head of the Special 
Collections Department.

Specific Job Responsibilities: The University Archivist has primary 
responsibility for planning, developing, and implementing a 
university archives program within the academic research library 
setting. Duties include overseeing the UIC records management program 
and assisting offices and colleges with developing records management 
plans in accordance with University Statutes and Illinois State 
Records laws; supervising the transfer of selected records to the 
university archives for permanent retention; providing access to 
holdings by accessioning collections, writing finding aids, and 
providing references services.  Additionally, the University 
Archivist assists rare books and manuscript personnel in providing 
reference and other services such as the preparation of accessions, 
user guides, and exhibitions as needed.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Library Science from a 
program accredited by the American Library Association; three to five 
years professional archive administration experience in an academic 
or research library.  Understanding of records management 
fundamentals.  Professional commitment to librarianship and archives 
administration and evidence of ability to meet university standards 
in clinical research, publication, and professional service. 
Additional Desirable Qualifications: Certified Archivist or Certified 
Records Manager.  Excellent writing skills and the ability to 
communicate effectively with administrators, researchers and scholars 
making use of the archival collection; strong public services 
orientation.

Salary/Rank/Contract: Salaries are competitive and based on education 
and experience $43,000 minimum; faculty appointments in the UIC 
Library; faculty status; twelve month appointment; 24 days vacation; 
12 days annual sick leave with additional disability benefits; 11 
paid holidays; medical insurance (contribution based on annual 
salary; coverage for dependents may be purchased); two dental plans 
available; life insurance paid for by the State; participation in one 
of the retirement options of the Illinois State Universities 
Retirement System compulsory (8% of salary is withheld and is tax 
exempt until withdrawal); no Social Security coverage but Medicare 
payment required.
