States’ Impact on Federal Education Policy Project 
Archival Assistant 

The New York State Archives seeks to hire an Archival Assistant for the States’ Impact on Federal Education Policy Project (SIFEPP). SIFEPP is working to initiate, stimulate and support in New York State and across the nation, the creation of a comprehensive, accessible historical record that documents the role that states have played in shaping federal education policy since the mid-20th century.  The Archival Assistant will assist with the arrangement and description of archival records related to education policy.


Specific Duties:
Working under the direction of the Access Services unit in conjunction with the SIFEPP Project Archivist, the Archival Assistant will:  

1.	Prepared enhanced finding aids for selected records.
2.	Assist with database and Internet searches to identify records held in other institutions. 
3.	Prepare metadata for digital images for the project website.
4.	Scan images for the project website. 
5.	Carry out other administrative duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
1.	Masters in history, education, or related field; coursework in library science or archives preferred.
2.	Facility with computers, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
3.	Experience arranging and describing records preferred.

Compensation: $12 - $15 per hour based on experience; includes health, dental, vision benefits.

States’ Impact on Federal Education Policy Project 
Archives Technician 

The New York State Archives seeks to hire an Archives Technician for the States’ Impact on Federal Education Policy Project (SIFEPP). SIFEPP is working to initiate, stimulate and support in New York State and across the nation, the creation of a comprehensive, accessible historical record that documents the role that states have played in shaping federal education policy since the mid-20th century.  The Archives Technician will assist with the processing of archival records related to education policy.


Under the direction of the Project Archivist for the States’ Impact on Federal Education Policy Project, the Archives Technician will undertake the following activities to process archival records: 

1.	Rehouse records into appropriate archival folders, boxes, or other containers.
2.	Prepare container and folder lists.
3.	Enter data into databases and online tools.
4.	Remove non-archival clips, binders, and fasteners.
5.	Photocopy newspapers and fragile items.
6.	Undertake other administrative tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

1.	High school diploma or GED, with college-level courses or degree in history preferred.
2.	Experience using computers, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
3.	Familiarity with use of the Internet.
4.	Experience or training in processing records preferred.

Compensation

$10 per hour, full or part-time work is available.
