Yes, I have noticed that Broadcast engineers embrace a certification program. I am too old to go though this hoopla...... and if you count every area I function in... there would not be enough years left in my life to do even a tenth of them.

I suppose the certification provides an instant calibration to an  employer that is not  willing to take the time to look at alot of details... it is  like a binary switch ... 1 or 0   ....  go  or no go....  certified or not certified.....   thus making  it a simpified task for the future employer to sort....

As an employer a degree or certification would mean more that the person appling to the job had a certain amount of tenacity ( which can be important..)  not if they have studied the subject, had experence in the subject, retained  knowlege in the area of interest... yada yada. ( from my 70's and 80's  days of running a computer business)
