PROCESSING ARCHIVIST POSITION UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT EL PASO LIBRARY SPECIAL COLLECTIONS DEPARTMENT POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Processing Archivist is responsible for preserving and processing photograph and manuscript collections; he or she will make collections more accessible by creating and up-dating catalog records and finding aids. The successful applicant will have a Master's in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution—or a master's degree in a related field such as history—with formal training in archival management and description. This is a temporary position for the period of 09/01/2006 through 08/31/2007, with the possibility that the position may be continued. Sonnichsen Special Collections Department includes book collections on Southwest and Border Studies, Chicano Studies, Military History, Western Fiction, Printing and Book Design, Judaica, and Art. The department also houses the University Library's rare books, theses and dissertations, an oral history collection, and approximately 550 manuscript and photograph collections. The staff consists of two professionals, one half-time military history curator, and three classified staff members.
