This position may at times be requested by the supervisor, department
head, appointing authority/his designee or the President s Office, to
assume other tasks and responsibilities deemed necessary reflecting a
cooperative atmosphere within the respective departments and/or
University as a whole.


50% REFERENCE ASSISTANCE: Interviews and registers on-site archives
patrons; helps patrons formulate advanced research strategies; instructs
patrons in the use of archival finding aids; instructs on-site patrons
in the proper use and handling of archival records; locates and
retrieves archival materials for the patrons; supervises on-site
patrons; makes photocopies or scanned printouts of archival materials
for patrons; answers complex reference questions concerning the archival
collections; responds to telephone reference and e-mail reference and
refers questions to University Archivist when required; conducts
research on behalf of distance patrons; provides student library
assistants reference assignments as appropriate; generates monthly
research statistics for archives to report to University Archivist.

20% OUTREACH ACTIVITIES: Schedules class presentations with requesting
faculty members; speaks to classes about information contained in
archival collections and explains methods of appropriate research
activities; performs similar activities for non-academic groups (alumni,
civic clubs, educational organizations, genealogical societies, scouting
groups, etc); gives tours of the historic building when requested by
groups or individuals; schedules events in Anderson Library upon request
of individuals in ESU departments or organizations; provides information
to groups concerning the use of the facility; supervises evening and
weekend events scheduled outside normal business hours; creates displays
and exhibits based on archival materials or historical subjects.

10% PROCESSING: Helps to process archival collections applying
knowledge of archival best practices.

5% COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT: Participates in Archives collection
development with University Archivist; advises University Archivist if
there are knowledge gaps in the collections that researchers most
commonly request; accepts incoming donations to the collection of the
University Archivist is not available to do so.

5% SHELVING: Supervises student library assistants in shelving of
archival materials.

5% OFFICE MANAGEMENT: Supervises, with direction from University
Archivist, student library assistants in the execution of routine tasks
and creation of student assistant projects in reference and processing;
manages student payroll for department and creates projections of future
student assistant budget needs; trains student library assistants and
assigns duties in Archives to student assistants; determines what
archival supplies are needed for appropriate preservation projects;
creates supply order requests and sends them to Library Business
Manager; determines computer hardware and software needs and contacts
appropriate personnel to initiate orders; monitors equipment and
facilities problems using scientific hygrothermograph readings and
reports them to Physical Plant.

5% MISCELLANEOUS: Compiles monthly and yearly statistics reports of
archives use; maintains inventory of Archives supplies and notifies
University Archivist when supplies are low; serves on Library and
University committees; other duties as assigned by University
Archivist.
