Job Announcement--Baltimore

The Jewish Museum of Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland is seeking a full-time, permanent Archivist & Librarian.  The Jewish Museum of Maryland is the country’s largest regional Jewish history museum, located in the heart of the vibrant old Jewish neighborhood in downtown Baltimore.  The Museum interprets two historic synagogues, has two exhibition galleries, a library reading room and a family history research center.  The JMM Library and Archives contains a 2,000 volume reference library, a 1,000 linear foot archival collection, and a photographic collection comprising approximately 100,000 images.

The Archivist & Librarian is responsible for processing archival collections and creating finding aids, assisting researchers, working with the collections staff on a variety of projects, coordinating digitization efforts, supervising a small staff, and envisioning the future of the archives. 

The Jewish Museum of Maryland is an equal opportunity employer.  Candidates should have an MA in library science or a related field (museum studies, history, etc.) , experience with archival processing and creation of finding aids, and familiarity with collections databases and standard office applications.  An interest in local history as well as knowledge of the Hebrew language and Jewish history are helpful, but not required.  The JMM offers a competitive salary, medical, dental and vision insurance, 401k plan, and paid vacation and sick time in a family friendly work environment.
