I cannot specifically answer the question about the AAA not sponsoring 
events in 1917 where alcohol was served, other than to say that by 1917 
there was widespread agreement among American elites that the use of 
alcohol was too often harmful to drinkers and the larger community.  In 
1916 voters had selected a Congress that would in 1917 produce the 
necessary 2/3 majorities to initiate the ultimate marketing regulation 
on liquor purveyors, prohibition.
