Hello, Brian (and List). What will happen to the old archived messages
posted to date at the Miami University site? Will they still be
available? I have found it useful to search old Archives List postings
in the past. Will these messages from the period 1993 to 2006 now
disappear as the List no longer will be hosted by Miami University.
(Presumably they still will be available through Google Cached
versions.) If you could put a note at your new site at
http://www.archivists.org/listservs/arch_listserv_terms.asp about the
archived messages, I would appreciate it. I would hate to see the
archives of an Archives List become unaccessible, LOL.

I'll have to think about whether or not to subscribe to the new
version. I'm not sure my lengthy ruminations ever did fit very well
with the current list. And whether they would fit with the proposed
labelling system and the new list. But no matter what I decide about
subscribing and continuing with the List, I would appreciate a note on
your website about what will happen to the old web archived messages.

Thanks and good luck,

Maarja

Subject: A&A List Migration

Dear A&A List Subscribers:

Effective immediately, the Archives & Archivists List is migrating to a
new list server managed by the Society of American Archivists. In
addition, the SAA Council recently revised the list Terms of
Participation.

The new terms, along with instructions on how to subscribe to the new
A&A List, are posted at:

http://www.archivists.org/listservs/arch_listserv_terms.asp

The A&A List remains "an open forum for all topics relating to archival
theory and practice." Membership in SAA is not a requirement.

The list at MU-Ohio will be disabled on Friday, September 15, 2006. The
current list archives will remain available pending their final
deposition.

WHY IS THE A&A LIST MIGRATING?

After more than 7 years of exemplary service, Robert M. Schmidt is
stepping down as the Archives & Archivists List Coordinator. In order to
sustain the list, SAA is assuming ongoing responsibility for list
management.

WHO IS THE NEW LIST COORDINATOR?

SAA is pleased to introduce the new A&A List Coordinator, Kerwin R. So.
Kerwin is a student member of SAA who is pursuing an MLIS with an
Archival Studies emphasis at San Jose State University. He was also a
Digital Collections Intern at the Bancroft Library and was recently
awarded the 2006 Archie Motley Memorial Scholarship for Minority
Students in Archival Administration. He brings a wealth of other
professional experience, including work at ArchiveGrid.org, the San
Francisco History Center, the Pacific Film Archive, and the National
Archives.

HOW DO I RE-SUBSCRIBE?

Please visit
http://www.archivists.org/listservs/arch_listserv_terms.asp.

Sincerely,
Brian P. Doyle
SAA Director of Member & Technical Services
