Processing Archivist

The New Mexico State University Library invites nominations and 
applications for the position of Processing Archivist.

Founded in 1888, New Mexico State University is a comprehensive land-grant 
university and Carnegie designated high research institution. NMSU is a 
member of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, and is 
classified as a Title V Minority Institution by the U.S. Department of 
Education. The University is located in the southern New Mexico city of Las

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Department Head for Archives and Special Collections, the 
Processing Archivist will process collections and prepare finding guides; 
provide reference service; supervise staff and student employees; and be 
assigned special projects.  Trains other members of the department as 
needed.  As a member of the library faculty, is responsible for achieving 
in the following areas:  librarianship; research, publication, and creative 
activity; and service.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:  MLS or equivalent degree with specialization in archives 
administration, in hand by hire date, from an ALA-accredited 
program.  Knowledge of current arrangement and description, and processing 
standards; emphasis and experience with computers and electronic databases 
and appropriate microcomputer applications; ability to work efficiently and 
meet project goals and deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.  Must 
have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred: Two years professional experience working in an archive or 
manuscript repository in an academic or research library.  Demonstrated 
abilities in project planning, management, and library 
development/fund-raising.  Ability to work independently as well as 
collaboratively in a complex, changing environment.

POSTION INFORMATION:  This is a 9-month appointment, tenure track position 
at the rank of assistant professor.  Salary:  $ 33, 500 (entry level).
