Elizabeth,
One problem with Swiffers is that they are not lint-free. If the document has raised lettering, rough texture, or is torn, the cloth fibers could catch and damage your document. Old, clean cotton sheets or muslin cloth can also be used to lightly dust, but care should be taken that the document has no graphite (pencil), charcoal, or pastel markings. They will smudge. Canned air works well to remove light dust. Fine, natural bristle art brushes remove surface dirt. Artgum erasers, lightly applied, remove marks and dirt. For other objects, not documents, my favorite dusting cloths are well-laundered, soft cotton diapers. Reusable, no cost, lint-free.

Subject: Removing dust from
documents & photos
Are there any dangers to using a product such as the “Swiffer” Dusters for removing surface dust from documents/items (used very gently, of course), rather than a document cleaning pad? Any other tools or ideas that might be used/recommended?
