Responsibilities:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Head Reference & Instruction Librarian. This person reports to the Assistant Director for Public Services. The ideal candidate will lead the Reference Department staff in adapting and responding to the academic community's changing needs and expectations.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to services that transforms the reference environment and:
Provides leadership for the Reference & Instructional Service Department; implements a full range of innovative information user services while also offering effective traditional services. Manages departmental operations including the supervision of eight librarians, professional and support staff. Formulates and implements departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Prepares statistical reports. Oversees the development and management of the print & electronic Reference Collection.

Required Qualifications:

ALA-accredited MLS required; preferred demonstrated record of having implemented innovative services and ability to lead and work in a team-based setting; minimum of 3-5 years of related work and supervisory experience; broad knowledge of electronic and print reference sources; awareness of current trends and emerging technologies in the delivery of reference services and library user education; knowledge of digital technology; public service leadership; excellent oral and written communications skills; strong user-services orientation; demonstrated competence in the use of web authoring tools and standards. Must have the ability to adapt to a changing environment and work with culturally and racially diverse staff and patrons.

Salary: $50,000 - $55,000 depending on experience/education. Application deadline is September 30, 2006.
