We currently have an opening for a part-time archives assistant in the Archives of Alcoholics Anonymous’ General Service Office in New York. This will be a great opportunity for a student of history and archives to gain varied experience in the archives department of a fascinating organization that truly treasures its rich history.

 

The archives assistant’s primary goals and responsibilities are to ensure the organization, arrangement, description, and preservation of archival records associated with Alcoholics Anonymous.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organizing and arranging important documents, photographs, and other materials
  • Preserving records through preservation photocopying and rehousing
  • Digitization of fragile records
  • Indexing and cataloging records using proprietary catalog software programs
  • Conducting historical research
  • Composing reports
  • Responding to research requests
  • Assisting with exhibits and displays of archival material
  • Assisting with incoming donations and accessions

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree with history major preferred. We also welcome applicants who are currently pursuing an undergraduate degree and possess a strong interest or focus in history.
  • Work experience in a library or archival collection preferred
  • Must possess advanced research skills, attention to detail, organizational skills, and excellent written and oral communication  

·         Excellent ability to work independently and under pressure

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Knowledge of other database systems may be helpful

·         Ability to lift at least 35 lbs

 

 

SALARY:    $15.00 per hour (up to 20 hrs per week)

                   Flexible hours between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM
