Probably they are stabilization prints.  It was a machine method of
processing that delivered fairly dry prints in a few seconds.  They were
not run through a fixer.     They should not be stored with other
prints, and in time they will fade, (a matter of years) unless they are
fixed and washed.   There were several brands of processor, but the most
popular was Kodak Ektamatic.   I think the back of the print will say
Ektamatic Paper.   Agfa, and a couple other companies made the paper as
well.

Subject: [ARCHIVES] Smelly photos



We found some photos damaged by moisture that smell bad.  They were
probably taken for the yearbook in the 1970s.  Some but not all the
photos are in the yearbooks.  The subjects are unidentified.  Should we
throw them away or keep them separate from other photos?
