The following are archival events for September 15-24 as taken from the Archivist's Daybook <http://www.southwestarchivists.org/HTML/Daybook.htm>. ----- Sept 15 On this date in 2004, an ordinance went into effect at the Huntington Public Library, California, that banned cell phone use involving talking, text messaging, and ringing tones in a public library. The city ordinance allowed librarians to issue citations on the spot rather than calling the police. First time offenders will be warned; $250-$500 for second time, and $1,000 for third time. Yes!! Sept 15 Deadline for presentation proposals for the conference, "Taking a Stand: A Conference on Activism in Canadian Cultural Archives." Will be held June 12-14, 2007, in Ottawa. Sept 15 Submissions due for the Brenda McCallum Prize, presented by the American Folklore Society's Archives and Libraries Section for an exceptional work dealing with folklife archives or the collection, organization, and management of ethnographic materials. Sept 17 Constitution Day; United States. Prior to the upholding by the US Supreme Court of the US Patriot Act in 2001, it was generally believed that the US Constitution protected the privacy rights of US library and archives users by shielding library and archival use records from government search without a warrant. That is a constitutional protection United States citizens no longer have. See the American Library Association's "Resolution on the USA Patriot Act and Related Measures that Infringe on the Rights of Library Users <http://www.ala.org/ala/washoff/WOissues/civilliberties/theusapatriotact/ala resolution.htm>." Sept 18 On this date in 2003, the National Archives of Australia officially announced the establishment of the Ian Maclean Award, an award to fund research benefiting the archival profession and promoting the important contribution that archives make to society. Further information about the award and stipend can be found on the National Archives of Australia website <http://www.naa.gov.au>. Sept 20 ART meeting, New York. Sept 21-23 International heritage forum "The Best in Heritage <http://www.TheBestInHeritage.com>;" Dubrovnik. Sept 22 On this date in 1930 was born A. Otis Hebert. In 1971 he became a founder and the first president of the Society of Southwest Archivists <http://lib-04.lib.uh.edu/ssa/ssa.htm> (USA). Provided there are no errors or issues requiring major revision, the official version of the Schema is scheduled to be released Monday, October 3. The schema is available at: <http://www.loc.gov/ead/eadschema.html>. Sept 23 On this date in 2004, Minister of Canadian Heritage Liza Frulla announced the appointment of Ian E.
