Hello, About 4:00 this afternoon I saw an Orange-crowned Warbler out my back window, in the next pine tree over from where I saw it 3 weeks ago. I'm assuming this is the same bird as before--I am so happy it survived the brutal winter weather! This time it flew away after only 30 seconds or so, so I wasn't able to get any photos. But I did get my binoculars on it, and observed the exact same coloration as before--olive-yellow overall, no wingbars, faint streaking on breast blending into bright yellow undertail coverts (very bright with the low-level sunlight), the grayer head and light supercilium. It was feeding just as energetically as it was during the snowstorm on Feb.13th when I last saw it. Definitely a hardy bird. I've had suet out there for about 2 1/2 weeks now, but not a single bird has touched it as far as I can tell. There are a lot of houses around and I can see why not many birds forage around here. That just makes an Orange-crowned Warbler sighting here seem so much more unusual and out of place. But who am I to tell a bird where he/she should and shouldn't go!! -Nate Nye Hilliard, OH ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
