Lots to see on Saturday while out with a brand new birder (I only have 3 years in myself). Two lifers for me -- Common loon (I thought they had left -- WRONG; even heard their lonesome call) American coot (drastically lower numbers) Great Egret Great Blue Heron Baltimore Oriole (abundant) Orchard Oriole BLUE-WINGED WARBLER (lifer for me) Blackburnian warbler Black and white warbler Yellow rumped warbler Yellow warbler Northern Parula SWAINSON'S THRUSH (lifer for me) Wood Thrush Eastern Kingbird Eastern Phoebe Great Crested Flycatcher Blue Gray Gnatcatcher Ruby Crowned Kinglet (numbers down from previous week) House Wren (quite a few) White throated sparrow (down from last week) Eastern Towhee (quite a few) And the usuals, many twitterpated and nesting. The blue-winged warbler was seen off the Buckeye Trail that goes into the woods off Dike Road in the no vehicle access area. Denise in Akron "Look at the birds..." Matthew 6:26 I look at the birds because I believe they will carry the messages of my heart upward to our Creator. I look at them because I believe in their existence, the way their songs begin and end each day–the invocations and the benedictions to God Himself. I look to the birds because they remind me of what I love rather than what I fear. And that God's eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me! ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
