While most birders were headed to the lake, we joined a friend and headed south to bird Tar Hollow State Park and Forest for the weekend. The birds seem to be at their peak. Great Weekend! Green Heron American Bittern Turkey Yellow-billed Cuckoo Chimney Swift RT Hummingbird Pileated Woodpecker - they were everywhere Red-headed Woodpecker - first we have ever seen at Tar Hollow Phoebe Tree, Bank, N.Rough-winged, Barn Swallow Purple Martin Wood Thrush - lots White-eyed, Yellow-throated, Blue-headed and Red-eyed Vireo 25 Warblers Black-and-white Worm-eating Blue-winged Tennessee Parula Yellow Magnolia Cape May Black-throated Blue Yellow-rumped Black-throated Green Cerulean Blackburian Yellow-throated Chestnut-sided Bay-breasted Pine Prairie Ovenbird Louisiana Waterthrush Kentucky Chat Common Yellowthroat Hooded Redstart Scarlet Tanagers - in flame red and everywhere We stopped counting towhee at about 30.
