There have been oil spill workshops in the state of Ohio by OWRA(Ohio Wildlife Rehabilitators Association) and nationally by such organizations such as NWRA(Nat'l Wildlife Rehabilitators Association) and IWRC(Int'l Wildlife Rehabilitators Council) . There are rehab centers in most states now so I am sure that plans are underway to act. You can contact me privately and I can put you in touch with these organizations. I'm not sure what I can offer to help when the oil slick hits but perhaps a check to wildlife recovery efforts. I would really really appreciate it if some of the more connected birders let us (or me personally) know of opportunities to help. I have some vacation saved and would be willing to go down, drive down supplies, man phone lines, wash birds, cook for workers, whatever. But have no idea how to do that. Though I think this will be going on for a long time so opporunities will continue, if there is any way to find out about them. Personally I hope they consider calling out the National Guard to help skim and locate and wash wildlife. It may be silly but I do buy Dawn dishwashing liquid just because of their commercials and promises to help wildlife. I hope they're making extra.
