Since it's been over two years since a public announcement on the Ohio checklist, I thought I'd offer a *unofficial* update on new additions at least. The Ohio Bird Records Committee did not accept documented reports of the following potential additions to the state list: McCown's and chestnut-collared longspurs and common pochard; other reports remain under review, such as for ferruginous hawk. Added to the official state checklist (now at 424 species I believe) are the following: Allen's hummingbird Holmes Co 11/12/2009 Dusky flycatcher Ottawa Co 6/3/05 Reddish egret Ashtabula Co 6/5/08 Whooping crane various nineteenth-century dates in Scioto, Hamilton, and Preble counties. The last species was added after an amendment to OBRC criteria which allowed the addition of species documented by specimens, identified by reputable authorities, which have since been impossible to locate. These species can be added to the last edition (2008) of the OBRC Annotated Checklist. Readers interested in obtaining this checklist, and those curious about the whooping crane addition (my contribution), can write me for details. Official OBRC reports will be published in the fullness of time. Details on these are, as always, available on request from Ned Keller, Secretary of the OBRC. Bill Whan Columbus--still scuffling to catch up with Vic's report from 2110. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
