Tonight after work I visited Spring Valley WMA (Warren/Green County). Warbler wise it was very quite. The highlight was getting a visual of an American Bittern from the end of the boardwalk. It flew up and landed about 200 feet away. If it had not flown I would not have seen it and after it landed, even though I watched it the whole way, I could not relocate it again. I also had good looks at Sora and Virginia Rail. Looking back on my notes the third week in April is the peak week for me to find American Bittern at Spring Valley over the past 5 years. If you get a chance you may want to try being out there around 7:30 PM and staying till dark, if needed. I would imagine that this would be a good time to look at your favorite marsh or try a new marsh for American Bittern. Last night Rick and I found Common Yellowthroat and Green Heron at Spring Valley in addition to the Virginia and Sora.
