Andy, You might want to check out a recording of Northern Waterthrush. The songs are similar, although the Kirtland's has a much louder, richer song. As a side note, the first Kirtland's showed up on the breeding grounds May 1st. Pretty slow overall, but at the ravine I heard what I am 90% certain was a KIRTLAND'S WARBLER. The bird was singing from the deep brush at the Ravine just west of the bridge. I never saw the bird, but after listening to recordings of warblers, there doesn't seem to be any other likely candidate. The bird call sounded like a "Ch, Ch, we-e-o -Wee! Wee!" with the "we-e-o" descending slightly and the last two notes rising. Is there any other bird that sounds remotely like this? I would have stuck around to hunt down the bird but I needed to get to work. > > Please be advised that there is a lot of maintenance activity going on at the cemetery right now - there's a large mound of gravel at the east entrance to the ravine and lots of trucks and activity. > > Other birds of interest observed: > > The pit: > Chestnut-sided Warbler > Ovenbird > Yellow-rumped Warbler > American Redstart > Veery > Swainson's Thrush > Hairy Woodpecker > Wood Duck > > Ravine: > Eastern Phoebe > Red-eyed Vireo > Eastern Wood-Pewee > > The usual residents were about. > > Good Birding, > Andy Sewell > Columbus, Ohio > > ______________________________________________________________________ > > Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society. > Our thanks to Miami University for hosting this mailing list. > Additional discussions can be found in our forums, at www.ohiobirds.org/forum/. > > You can join or leave the list, or change your options, at: > http://listserv.muohio.edu/scripts/wa.exe?LIST=OHIO-BIRDS > Send questions or comments about the list to: [log in to unmask] _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail is redefining busy with tools for the New Busy.
