Lunched at Ellis Pond today. Mid-day sun is not the best lighting. The
area east of the parking lot featured extensive mudflats, but only a
host of killdeers today. The rim of mud just west of there visible from
Wright Rd., from the parking lot to the western end near Bowen Rd, had
seven species of shorebirds, however:
five snipes
one semipalmated plover
seven killdeers
one western sandpiper
three white-rumped sandpipers
four dunlins
one pectoral sandpiper
A pair of shovelers were the only waterfowl. That this list differs
somewhat from Rob Thorn's of yesterday
[Killdeer - 10
Gr.Yellowlegs - 1
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER - 2
Dunlin - 2
Wilson's Snipe - 6]
shows there is probably some turnover. You have to move along about 300
yards of roadside to get angles because of the low sun and the
vegetation. Didn't seem to be any shorebirds on the far side.
