The red-breasted nuthatch pair (well one is male other is female) that arrived in our northern Summit County yard 9-15-2010 remain. Do not see them every day - likely because have stopped looking every day; yet it is sensible to believe they'd spend time on neighboring properties. They go through phases of gathering large amounts of black oil sunflower seed and taking it to the red pines. Wonder if they are gathering from another location on days not seen here? Does anyone know if they are known to store food for later the way some other species do? The last couple days I've seen them in a white pine. Not sure what they are doing. Seems to be something related to the sap. Renee ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
