Greetings all - Terri just posted two point blank photos of one of the most peculiar looking female ducks I've ever seen. While the incredibly odd bill shape combined with odd head shape is reminiscent of the long-faced look of female Common Eider, this is not an eider species. Nor does it appear to be an abberrant Mallard. I'm not exactly sure what the bird is and likely there is a feral waterfowl species hybrid here. The bill shape is very peculiar, almost reminiscent of a shoveler hybridizing with another dabbling duck species. The very high placement of the deep red eye near the crown of the head is also intriguing... Very odd, odd duck. Looking forward to the opinions of others on what hybrid combo this may be.
