I just got in from my morning walk. With a full moon, I was listening carefully for owls, but what I heard instead was my first killdeer of the season. When I first moved here, I would often hear woodcock during my early morning walks (5 a.m.) in late winter or very early spring, but I haven't heard one for about five years. When my dog kennel is warmer than inside my house, I know spring must be on the way! The killdeer just affirms it.
