After hearing Robert Hershberger's recent quote on on the Bobolink area rare bird alert (available at http://www.gregmillerbirding.com/), "I don't think I have ever received so many reports of Dickcissel", I checked a local site that produced Dickcissels years ago but continues to undergo housing development. Yet there this morning 6/23 was a persistently singing male in the good-looking field on the west side of Coblentz Road between Midway and State Streets. The bird seemed to hang out 50 yards on either side of the driveway for one of the new houses on the hill, I believe it was 9375 Coblentz. It was near the sign on the brown fence reading Lot #13. It would appear to be a good time to check those Atlas Blocks in Eastern Ohio that don't often get Dickcissel for grassy, or fallow fields with lots of tall weeds. On another note, I don't think the Eurasian Collared-Dove in Kidron, Wayne County has been reported here yet. The bird is hanging out behind the L.E. Sommer & Son feed mill on Emerson Road 1/4 mile east of Kidron Road. The bird has been there for at least a month. To my knowledge, no one has seen two birds together although I saw a silhouette flyby as one dove sat on a wire that looked really good for a second collared-dove about a week ago. As I type this at 3PM Thursday, Ben Morrison reports a second male Dickcissel singing on Coblentz Road.
