I was at the location given in Doug Overacker's 6/12 & 6/13 posts (intersection of Kaser Rd. and Lindsey Rd. just east of Lockington)from 10:00 to 10:30 this morning. I parked my car on the right shoulder of Kaser Rd. about 50 yards west of the T-intersection with Lindey, and had set up my scope in front of my car for a good view of the lone shrubby tree opposite the intersection. I was just kind of looking around the general area, listening for the Cassin's to sing, when I heard the song, loud and clear, from the opposite side of Kaser, just to the rear of my car. The sparrow performed several singing display flights from the grass along the north shoulder of Kaser, from an area less than 20 yards west of my car! At one point the sparrow landed in the field just opposite my car, and less than 10 feet away. It was continually making soft, sharp, high-pitched chip notes, and I could easily see the fine streaking in the brownish crown, long tail and large grayish bill without binoculars. Great bird, and congratulations to Doug on this incredible find!
