Today was real interesting. There were some great birds with some decent waterfowl numbers. Gull numbers were a little low but I think that may have had a bit to do with the wind. Those passing by seemed to struggle a bit. The most interesting observation was a flock of 8 Brant the were heading southeast over the lake. I picked them up from some distance. I watched as they continued to move my way. Surprisingly they passed by a little east of my house and continued south over land. They continued out of sight. Also of note were two surf scoters and a parasitic jaeger. The jaeger went by just off shore. Most of the waterfowl passed by between 8:30 and 9:15. After that time only a few more birds passed by. there were a lot of distant waterfowl that were too far out to even tell if they were dabblers or divers. One interesting bird was a duck that was flying with a group of cormorants. It appeared to be a female goldeneye. I just didn't get a great look and it passed by real quick. It would be a very early date for one. I'm not sure what else it could have been.
