Hello All, Just a quick report of a day's birding along Lake Erie. W/SW winds were not nearly as strong as yesterday and a two-hour Lakewatch at Sunset Park in Willoughby was worthwhile. Good numbers of mostly Herring Gulls, with moderate numbers of Ringbilleds, were ever-present, moving predominately to the West and along the shoreline. Not many ducks were seen, but a flock of 10 Pintails, 3 Surf Scoters, and a single Brant were observed. Several groups of from 2 to 20 or so DB Cormorants also filed by. With the Southerly component to the wind, the Lake seemed almost "flat" at several stops as we headed West. Very little was moving or seen throughout the afternoon. A final stop at the Old Cedar Point Chausee was worthwhile as a single first-cycle Franklin's Gull was well-observed as it moved among the 300 or so Ring-bills on the E side of the causeway. With at least 8-10 inches of water "moved out" of the estuary by the SW winds, a good bit of mudflats was exposed there. The only shorebird species seen were 6 Lesser Yellowlegs and a single Dunlin. We'll be doing an early morning Lakewatch at the Huron Pier lighthouse in the morning before heading S to Eastfork SP.
