For details and pointers see: http://www.ohiobirds.org/records/documentation.php Greater White-fronted Goose - Three reports; fourteen were at Killdeer Plains WA, Wyandot on 3 Mar (TWC Bird Club, fide Su Snyder), which were still present the following day, three were along the entrance road to Metzger Marsh WA, Lucas on 4 Mar (m.obs), and five were in Ottawa off Rt. 2 in a field behind the Happy Hooker on 8 Mar (Tiffanie Hayes) Snow Goose - Two were at Funk Bottoms WA, Wayne on 2 Mar (Rob Thorn), thirteen along the entrance road to Metzger Marsh WA, Lucas on 4 Mar (m.obs), which increased to roughly 28 the following day (Sherrie Duris), one at Lake Medina, Medina on 5 Mar (Chris Decker) and Mark Rozmarynowycz had one near Oregon, Lucas on 7 Mar Ross's Goose - Two reports; one was at Killdeer Plains WA, Wyandot between 3-4 Mar (m.obs) and another was along Rt. 2, Ottawa on 8 Mar (Ryan Lesniewicz), which could be the same individual seen by Ethan Kistler on 22 Feb Eurasian Wigeon - The adult male at Funk Bottoms, Wayne remained at least through 2 Mar (Kent Miller) Surf Scoter - Matthew Collins reported "x" at Hoover Reservoir, Delaware on 3 Mar but no details were provided White-winged Scoter - The three remain at Circleville Quarry, Pickaway through 2 Mar (Tom Bain) and one was off N. Marginal Road, Cuyahoga on 4 Mar (Nancy Anderson) Black Scoter - Kent Baker reported one off Metzger Marsh WA, Lucas on 3 Mar but no details were provided Long-tailed Duck - One was off N. Marginal Road, Cuyahoga on 4 Mar (Nancy Anderson) Northern Goshawk - One was observed in Hamilton between 4-5 Mar (Neill, Kim & Jason Cade) BLACK-TAILED GULL - Approaching four months, the Ashtabula bird was still present as of 4 Mar (John Pogacnik). For more information see (http://northnw.wordpress.com/bt-gull/) California Gull - An adult was off Lorain on 3 Mar (John Pogacnik) and two were present on 5 Mar (Kent Miller) Thayer's Gull - Two were off Lorain on 3 Mar (John Pogacnik) Iceland Gull - John Pogacnik had one off Lorain on 3 Mar, which remained through 5 Mar (m.obs) and recorded two adults off Lake during a lakeshore waterbird survey on 4 Mar Lesser Black-backed Gull - Nine were off Lorain on 3 Mar (John Pogacnik), which grew to ten on 5 Mar (Kent Miller). Other reports include six off Huron on 4 Mar (Kent Baker), two off Lake on 4 Mar (John Pogacnik), one off Kelley’s Island between 4-5 Mar (Tom Bartlett), and one at Clear Fork Reservoir, Richland on 6 Mar (John Herman). Glaucous Gull - John Pogacnik recorded one off Lake on 3 Mar, a 2nd cycle was photographed off Lorain on 4 Mar (Mark R) and Tom Bartlett had one off Kelley’s Island between 4-5 Mar Snowy Owl - One of the Ashtabula birds remain through 2 Mar (Kent Ostermiller) and one was in Paulding on 7 Mar (Scott & Carrie Myers et al). An individual was reported near Metzger on 4 Mar by Harry Aspacher and his wife, which could very likely be the same individual from last month Long-eared Owl - One was observed at Ottawa NWR, Ottawa on 4 Mar (m.obs) but is inaccessible Northern Saw-whet Owl - Tom Bartlett had one on 4 Mar and five on 5 Mar on Kelley’s Island, Ottawa Northern Shrike - Sightings from this week came from Geauga, Ottawa, and Wyandot Dickcissel - The individual visiting a feeder in Holmes was still present through at least 2 Mar (Bobolink RBA) White-winged Crossbill - The only report from this week was a flock of eleven in Geauga on 4 Mar (Dan Best) Common Redpoll - Only two reports; a couple dozen remain on South Bass Island, Ottawa on 5 Mar (Lisa Bohl) and the female visiting a feeder in the same county continues off and on through the week (Ethan Kistler) - End Transcript Good birding, Ethan Kistler Oak Harbor, Ohio ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
