I birded in a few places in Athens County on Sunday, and saw (and heard) lots of good stuff! Following are highlights from the day. Waterloo Wildlife Area: Northern Parula Black and White Warbler (got good looks at this one!) Yellow-throated Warbler Blue-grey Gnatcatcher Eastern Phoebe (potentially looking for nesting area in a large rock face) Broad-winged Hawk Red-shouldered Hawk Wood Duck Chipping Sparrow Property and neighborhood walk: Yellow-throated Vireo (singing) Wood Thrush (singing) Ovenbird (singing) Louisiana Waterthrush Blue-grey Gnatcatcher (5 in one tree!) Tree Swallow Blue-winged Warbler (heard and seen) 2 active Carolina Wren nests 1 active Eastern Bluebird nest And one great non-bird sighting: lighting bugs were out last night! This morning when I got to work (N Shafer St, Athens) I saw my FOS Chimney Swifts. Good birding!
