I spent from about 5:30am-9am birding the Battelle Darby wetlands this morning, and started off with possible BARN OWLs calling from near the Darby Dan loop at the north end of the metro park. A poor quality recording (made with my phone) of one of the 2 birds can be found at http://soundcloud.com/paul-j-hurtado/battelle-darby-owl-14aug2012 After that I headed to the "Grain Elevator" wetlands (across from the bison enclosure) which continues to have great shorebird habitat and grassland birds. Highlights among the 50+ species (12 shorebird species) observed include: Northern Pintail, 1 early individual Both yellowlegs Stilt Sandpiper (4) Wilson's Snipe Wilson's Phalarope (1) Marsh (1) & Sedge Wrens Vesper Sparrow Savannah Sparrow Grasshopper Sparrow Blue Grosbeak (1 singing from parking area) Dickcissels (2) Bobolink (4 flyovers) For photos & more, see these eBird checklists: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S11341499 http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S11341763 Good birding, Paul Hurtado Columbus, OH ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
