Hi all, I just received a photo of a juvenile Brown Pelican, taken on Atwood Lake "this weekend". I don't know if it was Saturday or Sunday, or exactly where on this 70 square mile lake it was seen. I'll try and find out. There's a good chance the bird is still there; wayward pelicans sometimes stick, so if anyone is in that area they may wish to scout around a bit. This would only be the sixth or so Ohio record of Brown Pelican. Atwood Lake is in parts of Carroll and Tuscarawas counties in northeast Ohio. A google search will quickly produce maps and other info. Good luck if you look, and of course let us know if you find the bird. If I can ferret out any additional info I'll promptly report it. Perhaps Hurricane Isaac will produce some interesting birds after all.
