I finally nailed down a flock of white-winged crossbills this afternoon in Tuscarawas County. After diligently surveying every available conifer in the neighborhood for the past few weeks without success, I scored a flock of 17 feeding in the Zoar village cemetery. I had a single fly-by crossbill nearly 2 weeks ago but this is the first local flock encountered. Additionally I am seeing red-breasted nuthatches routinely; a week ago south of New Cumberland, this morning north of Dover as well as my yard near Bolivar daily. The Zoar Wetland Arboretum bald eagle pair is present there daily and a single female gadwall has also been seen at the arboretum in the company of mallards over the past two weeks.
