The immature black-crowned night heron that was reported yesterday evening was seen this morning (Wed. 8:30-9:30 a.m.) from the first parking area that looks out over the lake. It was found at the north end on the arm of land that extends out to the opening of water that connects the north and south ends of the lake. It was sitting on a dead branch about 50 ft. east from the end of the land and about 20 ft. above the water. Later, it was walking along the shoreline in that same location--probably looking for breakfast. At the north end of the lake (where you used to feed the ducks), there are still shorebirds available--pectorals, lesser yellowlegs, killdeer; but by that time we were wilting and decided to close up for some air-conditioning!
