I stopped by lower Hoover Reservoir just as the rain was letting up this afternoon and had a Long-tailed Duck fly in and settle off Maxtown Boat Launch. Other than that, waterbirds were hard to find on the lower reservoir, with 3 Pied-billed Grebes at Maxtown and a small group of 10 Hooded Mergansers down by the dam as the only notables. The prior day, I made a brief stop at Inniswood MetroPark, looking for the leucistic hummer with no luck. I did, however, also walk the forest trail and had a good haul of mast-eating birds because of a big beechnut crop. Included in the haul were 8 Red-bellied Woodpeckers, 2 Red-headed, 7 Downies, 2 Hairies, 4 Flickers, 6 Nuthatches, and 5-6 Blue Jays, all in the span of about 15-20 minutes. Anyone else stopping at this park should definitely walk the woodland trail. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
